On Wednesday, 27 May, the Townhouse Gallery will screen a selection of short films from Egypt and Tunisia as a part of the Shashet Townhouse (Townhouse Screen) programme.

Shashet Townhouse is an initiative that screens films on Wednesday nights at the Townhouse Library. Next week, four Arabic films will be screened, followed by a discussion with the directors. English subtitles will be available.

Egypt, 2015, 6 minutes

After seven years away, Hany comes back to Egypt for a brief visit. His old friends, Sameh and Nadia, invite him to dinner, where questions start to pop up out of the blue.

Huna, La Zalat Mustamerra (Here it is not over ... yet)
Egypt, 2011, 9 minutes

60 years after World War II, landmines still remain Egypt’s Western Desert. This documentary shows a part of the lives of landmine victims.

Egypt, 2009, 25 mins

The documentary discusses the Shaabi music industry before Mahraganat (popular festivals), from the point of view of musicians and singers.

Fi Belad Al-Vouvou (Made in Gougou)
Tunisia, 2013, 40 mins
With Latifa Doghri — Machmoum productions
The film follows the story of an old woman who was locked up in a house on the island of Djerba in Tunisia. People say that the woman is either crazy or seriously ill. Known as "Ezzaïma" (the leader), the woman, who is also a pioneer of music, stands strongly in the face of racism and slavery.
