A Libyan coast guard official says warplanes from the internationally recognized government bombarded an oil tanker near the central city of Sirte.

Colonel Reda Issa, who is aligned with the rival militia-backed government based in Tripoli, said the airstrikes hit a tanker that was carrying diesel fuel to supply a power station near Sirte. He said two people were injured, including one on the tanker and one near the power station. Libyan army officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The city of Sirte is under the control of the Islamic State's affiliate in Libya, though the power station on its outskirts is controlled by a militia aligned with the Tripoli government. The rival international recognized government operates from the eastern cities of Tobruk and Bayda.
