Jeddah duo interested in Zamalek's in-form playmaker

Jeddah-based duo Ittihad and Ahly are interested in signing Zamalek's in-form playmaker Ayman Hefni on a season-long loan, the Cairo club's chairman Mortada Mansour has said.

Hefni has been one of Zamalek's impressive performers this season as they close in on their first Egyptian Premier League title since 2004, with his trickery and defence-splitting passes causing constant menace to opponents.

"Ittihad and Ahly Jeddah both said they want to sign Hefni on loan next season," Mansour, who brought the 29-year-old last summer as part of a massive squad overhaul, said in a television interview.

"We will consider the offer that will equally benefit the player and the club."

Hefni scored three goals and dished out several assists as Zamalek opened up an 11-point lead over arch-rivals and defending champions Ahly, who played an extra game.

Mansour, who vowed to sign "17 players" in the close season after acquiring the services of more than a dozen players last term, also said the Jeddah clubs are vying for the permanent signature of left-back Mohamed Abdel-Shafy.

Abdel-Shafy has produced a string of impressive displays since joining Ahly Jeddah on a season-long loan last summer.

"We are considering offers from both sides for Abdel-Shafy," the outspoken lawyer added.
