The French Institute brings Dina El-Wedidi and Francois and The Atlas Mountains to the Cairo park

Eight music bands are to jazz up Cairo's Azhar Park on 25 June, as the French Institute in Cairo celebrates its tenth edition of its Fete de la Musique (World Music Day).

In thefirst part of the evening, Egyptian bands -- including eastern jazz band Mazaj, the Sufi tunes of Al Hadra, and percussion band Groovcussion -- are to perform in different areas all over the park.

Students from the Cairo Conservatory, the choir from the French Institute for Oriental Archeology (IFAO), and the Hassaballah band for wind instruments are also to showcase their skills.

In the second part of the evening, from 10 pm, Dina El-Wedidi will perform tracks from her latest album Tedawar W’ Tergaa (Turning Back), released in October 2014.

El Wedidi will be followed by the French band Francois and The Atlas Mountains, on part of their tour around the Middle East.

The band will perform their album Piano Ombre, which offers a fusion of sounds from African to pop.

World Music Day is traditionally celebrated on 21 June.

Last year, the French Institute celebrated the event at its premises, with a closing event at the Cairo Citadel.
