Ahram Online , Sunday 21 Jun 2015

Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman beat her own African record after winning the women’s 50-meter fly at the Arena Pro Swim Series Santa Clara in the United States on Saturday.

Osman needed 26.08 to hit the wall to improve on the 26.12 she did at the 2013 World Championships.

The 20-year-old moved to the 12th place of this year's world rankings for the 50m butterfly (long course).

Osman became the first Egyptian to qualify for the World Aquatics Championships final when she achieved this feat in 2013.

She finished 42nd with a time of 26.34 in the 50m freestyle contest of the 2012 Olympic Games in London but will look to improve on that in the Rio de Janeiro Games next year.
