Inter Milan are set to splash the cash to sign Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah this summer

Inter Milan President Erick Thohir has contacted Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich for the signature of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah when the winter transfer window reopens, Italian magazine Corriere dello Sport reported on Monday.

The speedy and gifted forward failed to book a regular place in the Chelsea squad before the British side loaned him to Italy's Fiorentina last winter.

In Italy, Salah made an immediate impact scoring six league goals, helping his new team finish fourth in the Serie A table.

After a successful six-month-loan spell at Italian side Fiorentina, Mohamed Salah became a big target for most of the European topflight including Inter Milan, AC Milan and English Premier League outfit Tottenham.

Italian magazine Corriere dello Sport confirmed Monday that Inter Milan management were a step closer to getting the signature of the Egyptian star this summer as the club's president had officially asked for Salah's price.

The Nerazzurri already signed Geoffrey Kondogbia from Monaco last week and they are on their way to finalising a second deal by signing Egyptian winger Salah.

Salah could cost Inter Milan $22m as the option of borrowing him from Chelsea this summer is also on the table.

The 23-year-old star Salah joined Chelsea in January 2014 after making a huge impact with Swiss side Basel, whom he helped lead to a domestic title in 2013, before also winning the Swiss player of the year award in the same year.
