Ahram Online, , Sunday 5 Jul 2015
The Egyptian army announced on Saturday that raids by the military have killed 205 terrorists

‪Twenty-nine terrorists were killed and three alleged suspects were arrested in North Sinai on Sunday amid an offensive carried out by the Egyptian military to curb the Islamic State- affiliated Sinai Province, security sources told Ahram.

Last Wednesday, simultaneous attacks on more than 15 military checkpoints, claimed by the Sinai province, previously known as AnsarBeit Al-Maqdis (ABM), left 21 military personnel dead, according to official military figures.

The Egyptian army announced on Saturday that raids since the Wednesday attack have killed "more than 200 terrorists".

On Saturday, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi visited troops in North Sinai, donning his military uniform for the first time since he took office in June 2014, to show his "respect" and "recognition" for their part in the "fight against terrorism".

‪Egypt's army is currently fighting a campaign against a decade-long militant insurgency in North Sinai that has increased since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi two years ago.
