Zamalek are to hold a celebration ceremony Friday on winning their first Egyptian Premier League trophy since 2004

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) have been handed the Premier League trophy from Ahly ahead of Zamalek's crowning.

"Zamalek and EFA official coordinate to make a ceremony with fans attendance this weekend," Al-Ahram Sports reported Thursday.

The Whites clinched their 12thEgyptian Premier League title two games early with eight points separating them from Ahly in second place and each with a game still in hand.

The 36-time title holders Ahly dominated the league during the last decade, winning eight successive trophies with two tournaments cancelled due to security reasons.

Almost all Egyptian football activities were staged behind closed doors since 2012 due to repeated stadium disasters leaving scores dead amid clashes and stampedes.

Some media reports spread earlier said that Ahly refused to hand over the trophy, causing a storm of social media criticism and sarcasm.
