Italian giants Roma have completed the signing of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, the Serie A club announced on Thursday.

"AS Roma are delighted to confirm the signing of Egyptian international forward Mohamed Salah from Chelsea," read a statement on the club's official website on Thursday.

Chelsea revealed in a statement published on their official website that "the winger will spend the 2015/16 campaign on loan at the Stadio Olimpico and the agreement includes an option to purchase at any point during the season."

The international winger was the subject of a protracted transfer saga that ran over a week.

Roma have finalised the deal with Chelsea and the player, who underwent medical tests at Roma last week, but the deal was not officially unveiled due to some administrative problems with Fiorentina, where Salah played for the last six months on loan.

Earlier in the day, Salah published a photo of his new jersey and one with his new captain and icon Francesco Totti.

The Egyptian winger produced some fine displays at Fiorentina that prompted the Viola to pursue the option of making his loan-deal permanent, but the international winger declined the offer. Fiorentina, however, insisted that they owned the player's services.

"I think Roma are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I'm happy to be on this team," Salah told Roma TV after the signing on Thursday.

"I think everybody here has ambition and everybody wants to win the title. Everybody will give their best to make the fans happy.”

Salah started his career at Egyptian outfit Arab contractors before joining Swiss champions FC Basel in 2012 where he was crowned as player of the year in the Swiss League after playing a prominent role in Basel's title-winning campaign in 2012/2013.

Following his fine displays with Basel, especially in the Europa League, he joined Premier League giants Chelsea in January 2014 but failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

In January 2015 he joined Fiorentina on loan and he made a great impact with Viola being one of the key performers in both Serie A and the Europa League during the second half of the season.
