The Egypt winger says he is happy to join AS Roma, thanks fans for warm welcome

Egypt winger Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he has joined AS Roma, in an interview with the Italian side's official website, in order to play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Italian giants Roma completed the signing of Salah from Chelsea without disclosing the deal's details, but the English Premier League Champions revealed in a statement published on their official website that "the winger will spend the 2015/16 campaign on loan at the Stadio Olimpico and the agreement includes an option to purchase at any point during the season."

The international winger, who was the subject of a protracted transfer saga that lasted over a week, expressed his pleasure at joining Roma during the interview.

"Thank you for warm welcome, I am happy to join Roma," Salah said.

The 23-year-old attacker was warmly greeted by AS Roma's fans upon his arrival in the Italian capital to complete the move to the Serie A runners-up.

"Roma is one of the big European teams and I am happy to join them, and at the fans' welcome," he said.

"I am searching for stability in one team as I played six months with Fiorentina last season after spending one year with Chelsea," the Egyptian winger added.

"I have an ambition to win the Italy Serie A title with the team next season," he said.

"I chose Roma to play in the UEFA Champions League next season," he added.

"I tell Roma fans that we will do our best next season as we will fight to win a trophy with the team," Salah concluded.

Salah excelled during a six-month loan spell from Chelsea at Fiorentina last season, scoring nine goals in 26 appearances in all competitions. The team finished fourth in the Serie A and reached the Europa League semi-final.

His fine displays prompted the Viola to take up the option of making his loan-deal permanent, but he turned down the offer to stay.
