Mohamed Salah makes an immediate impact in his first Roma match, scoring a goal in a 3-1 friendly win over Valencia

Egypt star Mohamed Salah kicked off his AS Roma career in convincing fashion, having bagged the opening goal in a 3-1 friendly win at Spain’s Valencia on Saturday.

Salah, who was unveiled as a new Roma signing on Thursday, was quick to repay manager Rudi Garcia’s faith in him with an eighth-minute goal.

Ivory Coast ace Gervinho was somewhat unlucky to see a sliding strike hit the woodwork before his second attempt was also denied by the back post, as Salah was in the right place and the right time to pounce and prod home his first Roma goal.

Francesco Totti then made it two following a team move involving the 23-year-old Egyptian, before the veteran forward found the net with a right-footed drive in the 24th minute.

But there was still another North African on target, with Algeria midfielder Sofiane Feghouli pulling one back for Valencia two minutes past the hour mark, as both teams headed into the dressing room with the score 2-1.

Salah then had to watch fellow African Gervinho score from the bench, after being substituted at half time.

Roma open their Serie A campaign with a visit to Hellas Verona next weekend.
