El-Sheikh Imam to be commemorated next Friday

A celebratory event will take place in Tahrir Sqaure next Friday for the anniversary of the composer's death


A celebration to commemorate the oud player and composer, El-Sheikh Imam, will take place next Friday in Tahrir Square, following the anniversary of his death on Tuesday 7 June.

Egyptian actors Khaled El-Sawy and Salah Abdallah, who have just released El-Fagoumy, a biopic about El-Sheikh Imam and Ahmed Foad Negm, will be introducing the evening.

Several music performances and poetry recitals will be held.

The singer Azza Balbaa will be performing among other singers, and poets Ibrahim Abdel Fattah, Maikel Adel and Moustafa Ibrahim will be reciting poetry.

The poet Ahmed Foad Negm will also be attending the commemoration of his late friend and companion.

El-Sheikh Imam and the poet Ahmed Foad Negm together represents a musical duo that gave voice to the political struggle during the 1960s and 1970s.

The celebration will start at 7 pm.
