The 6 AprilYouth Movement held a protest today to demand the release of one of its members.

A large number of the group gathered to protest in front of the office of the General Prosecutor, demanding they release Mohamed Shawki, an engineer and a member of the movement.

Shawki was arrested while photographing the violence that broke out in the Basateen constituency after the results of last Sunday's run offs were announced.

According to members of the movement, security forces severely beat Shawki and detained him in the Dar El Salam Police Station. Shawki was accused of damaging seven cars and attacking four policemen during the fights that broke out between the supporters of the candidates.

The group claims that Shawki was then transferred to the prosecutor who decided to keep him in police custody for four days, while investigations are carried out.
