Egyptian playwright and author Ali Salem died Tuesday at the age of 79.
Born on 24 February 1936 in the Egyptian port city of Damietta, Salem was the author behind dozens of theatre and film productions, including the iconic Egyptian play Madrasset El-Mushaghebeen (School of the Troublemakers, 1973).
His other works include the plays Afareet Masr El-Gedida (Phantoms of Heliopolis), Awladuna Fi London (Our Children in London, 1973), and El-Moalef (The Author, 1985) and the film Oghneya Ala El-Mamar (Song on the Passageway, 1972).
His last production was writing the screenplay for the film Daleel Al-Maraa Al-Zakeya (1990).
