Egypt’s armed forces have seized three explosives stores in Giza's lower-class districts of Imbaba and Warraq, and in North Sinai’s Al-Arish, according to a TV announcement by Egypt's army on Wednesday.

The three stores contained 30 tonnes of explosive devices and weapons, according to the statement.

The statement added that "terrorist elements" smuggled the materials used in the explosive devises.

“The chemicals were smuggled illegally in containers which entered Egypt claiming to be full of chairs,” the statement read.

The armed forces have also arrested a "number of terrorists" reportedly responsible for smuggling chemicals and weapons.

Security forces have, as is usual in Egypt, ramped up their activities to coincide with the beginning of the Eid Al-Adha holiday which started on Wednesday.
