Egypt's football association has chosen Dutch officials to oversee Ahly and Zamalek showdown next Wednesday

Next Wednesday’s derby between Ahly and Zamalekhas been assigned to Dutch official Kevin Blom and his crew.

The 37-year old Blom was a Premier Development Category referee since 2009 and was promoted to the Elite category at the start of the 2010-2011 season.

The Egyptian Football Association were close to assigning a Swiss referee crew but the officials’ association refused without cause and the Egyptians turned their attention to the Dutch FA.

The Cairo-based, arch-rivals Ahly and Zamalek are both keen to snatch up the first Egyptian League title since the events of 25 January. Ahly are seeking a seventh successive title while Zamalek are struggling to win their first since 2004.

Ahly are in the driving seat of the Egyptian League table with 55 points, five ahead of their arch-rivals and runners-up Zamalek.
