Roma announced on Thursday they have taken up the option to sign Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah on a permanent basis, just eight games into his debut season for the Italian outfit.

Salah joined Roma on a season-long loan from English champions Chelsea in the summer, and has produced a string of fine performances capped by goals in three consecutive games in recent weeks.

The Serie A heavyweights released their annual budget on Thursday, revealing they have activated clauses in the contracts of three on-loan players to sign them permanently; Salah, Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko and Spain's Iago Falque.

"We have signed permanent deals for Edin Dzeko from Manchester City, Mohamed Salah from Chelsea and Falque from Genoa, with them having been on loan," Roma said in a statement.

A Chelsea statement in August announced "the winger will spend the 2015/16 campaign on loan at the Stadio Olimpico and the agreement includes an option to purchase at any point during the season."

The 23-year-old Salah joined Roma this summer having just spent six months on loan at another Italian side, Fiorentina.

Salah started his career at Egyptian outfit Arab Contractors before joining Swiss champions FC Basel in 2012 where he was player of the year in the Swiss League, playing a prominent role in Basel's title-winning campaign in 2012/2013.

Following his fine displays with Basel, especially in the Europa League, he joined Premier League giants Chelsea in January 2014 but failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

In January 2015 he joined Fiorentina on loan and made an impact, with the club proving a challenger in both Serie A and the Europa League during the second half of the season.
