A total of 6,070 coordinators from youth, sports and education departments and localities were approved by the Higher Elections Committee (HEC) to assist in organising the parliamentary vote in Giza, Governor Khaled Zakareya El-Adly said Friday, according to state news agency MENA.

Giza has the largest number of voters in the first phase of the elections, due to take place Sunday and Monday.

Ninety ambulance cars were provided for emergency response at polling stations, while preparations have been made to address water or power cuts if they occur, the Giza governor said.

El-Adly added that he ordered that no candidate hang campaign posters during campaign moratorium period that started Friday, adding that action would be taken against any violators.

Giza governorate consists of 16 constituencies. The governorate is represented by 11 seats based on electoral lists as part of north, middle and south Upper Egypt, in addition to 37 seats elected on an individual basis.

The governor also called for the removal of cars parked in front of polling stations in coordination with traffic authorities, and for a 100-metre no-car zone around polling stations.

He also said that there has been coordination with security forces to respond to anyone who commits unlawful acts.

Some 180,000 police will be deployed to secure voting in the elections first stage, covering 14 governorates. The armed forces will also deploy some 185,000 troops.
