Art Alert: Asia Madani and El Dor El Awal to perform at El-Genaina Theatre

A double bill concerts will bring together a Sudanese singer and Egyptian band to Al Azhar park


Sudanese singer Asia Madani and El Dor El Awal band are scheduled to deliver concerts at El-Genaina Theatre on 29 October.

Madani was born and lived in Wad Madani in east central Sudan, before moving to Egypt in 2000 where she built a repertoire encompassing Sudanese folklore, as well as her own songs.

Madani has collaborated with an array of Egyptian musicians, and attended workshops with different artists from the west, east and from Africa.

El Dor El Awal (literally meaning the first floor) is a seven-member band that presents an amalgam of jazz and oriental music.

The band’s repertoire comprises of two albums: Qarar Izala (2006) and Aa’tareeq (2009). The band’s line-up includes Ahmed Omar (electric bass), Mohammad Samy (violin), Bob (kajun, djembe and different percussions), Fady Badr (keyboards), Mizo (konga, doff, tabla, and different percussions), Nour Ashour (saxophone), and Hisham Issam (oud).
