Egypt’s former prime minister, Ahmed Nazif, has become the first deposed regime figure to be referred to a military court
Prime minister Ahmed Nazif has become the first deposed regime figure to be referred to a military court. He is accused of abusing his power, along with ex-Luxor governor Samir Farag, to facilitate the selling of an army-owned piece of land to businessman Mamdouh Fillip.
Recently-revealed investigations indicated that Nazif and Farag directly ordered the selling of the land to Fillip for a negligible price - a deal that resulted in a loss of public funds of LE 60 million (over $10m).
The land was originally designated for an Olympic swimming pool.
Nazif is indicted on multiple charges of squandering public funds.
