The producers of the award-winning Nefertiti's Daughters have collected sufficient funds to start the process of turning the movie into a feature-length film.

The fundraising campaign, launched at crowd-funding forum Kickstarter, came to an end on 12 December after it raised 110 percent of the $70,000 target. According to the filmmakers, the funds will help them "complete editing and post-production" and as such expand the 40-min short doc to feature length.

Directed by Mark Nickolas and Racha Najdi, the short doc was released in April 2014 as a US production. The film stars Bahia Shehab, Mira Shihadeh, Salma Samy, Shahira Amin, Christiane Gruber, Ammar Abo Bakr and Nazeer.

The film's official website presents the Nefertiti’s Daughters as a story of women, art and revolution.

"Told by prominent Egyptian artists, this documentary witnesses the critical role revolutionary street art played during the Egyptian uprisings. Focused on the role of women artists in the struggle for social and political change, Nefertiti's Daughters spotlights how the iconic graffiti of Queen Nefertiti places her on the front lines in the ongoing fight for women’s rights and freedoms in Egypt today."

Throughout the past months the film has been screened in the official selection of several major film festivals. It won prizes at the Houston International Film Festival and Athens International Film-Video Festival.

The release of thefeature-length Nefertiti’s Daughters is planned on June 2016.
