After having its international premiere screened at the Dubai International Film Festival, We Have Never Been Kids won the Best Muhr non-fiction feature award, with its director Mahmood Soliman winning the best director award.

The film was in competition for the Muhr feature award, and is a documentary centring on the life of an Egyptian woman dealing with divorce and raising her four children amid continuously shifting circumstances.

The film was co-produced by Egypt with UAE, Qatar and Lebanon and is one of five Egyptian productions at the festival.

Soliman graduated in 1997 from the Higher Cinema Institute in Cairo. He is the founder and owner of the production company January Films for Arts and Culture Production.

We Have Never Been Kids is his first feature documentary, though he has worked extensively since 2003 writing, producing and directing documentaries that were aired by Egyptian TV and Al Jazeera.

Soliman has previously won over 27 festival prizes, including the Gerhard Lehmann prize at Switzerland's Locarno Film Festival in 2005 and the Golden Award at Qatar’s Al Jazeera Documentary festival in the same year.

He is also an essayist on Egyptian and Arab media, and the writer of three collections of short stories.
