The head of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA), Ahmed Abdel-Aal, said Tuesday that Egypt will witness a drop of five degrees Celsius in temperatures along with wind-driven dust starting Friday.

Meanwhile, Abdel-Aal said that Tuesday through Thursday would witness moderate to warm weather during daylight hours.

Cairo is expected to witness Tuesday a high of 21 degrees Celsius and a low of 12. The coastal city of Alexandria will see a high of 20 and a low of 11. Marsa Matrouh is expected to witness a high of 21 and a low of 10.

The Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh will witness a high of 22 and a low of 14.

"Starting Thursday evening, Egypt will witness windy weather accompanied by dust and also rainfall," Abdel-Aal said in a statement reported by the MENA news agency.

He added that all Egyptian governorates will witness a drop of five to six degrees in temperatures on Friday, 8 January.

Abdel-Aal said the country would witness a gradual improvement in weather starting Saturday, 9 January.

Bad weather conditions have paralysed life in different parts of the country, in part due to deteriorated infrastructure.

Beheira and Alexandria governorates witnessed in the beginning of the winter season heavy rains that resulted in flooding, causing the deaths of dozens of Egyptians.
