Egypt's internet subscriptions grow 20 per cent in year to 2011

Latest figures show more than 4.37 million new users, with internet penetration rising to around a third of the population


Egypt's internet subscriptions grew by 4.37 million subscribers in the year to May, a climb of 20.5 per cent, with total subscribers reaching 25.67 million. according to data issued by the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.

Internet penetration consequently grew to 32.19 per cent in April 2011, up from 24.91 per cent in the same period the previous year.

Around 43 per cent of internet users access it through mobile phones and portable USB firms while 33 per cent have ADSL connections, said ministry data.
