The detention of Egypt's ex-agriculture minister, Wali, who is being investigated for importing carcinogenic pesticides, has been extended another 15 days

The detention of former agriculture minister Youssef Wali has been extended for another 15 days, pending further investigations and interrogations.

Wali is accused of importing cancer-causing pesticides during his tenure, which some people claim prompted the number of cancer patients in Egypt to soar in the past years.

He is also indicted on a charge of public funds squandering.

Wali is said to have sold a piece of government land to fugitive businessman, Hussein Salem, for LE8 million ($1,355,000), although it is actually estimated to be worth LE208 million ($35,500,000).
