A car bomb exploded at the entrance of a beach-side restaurant in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Thursday, police said.

"A car bomb exploded at the entrance of Beach View Café at Lido beach," Major Abdiqadir Ali, a senior police officer, told Reuters. "We are investigating."

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. In the past radical group al Shebab has carried out similar attacks across Mogadishu, often targeting hotels and restaurants popular with government officials.
