The Iraqi parliament has voted yesterday, 13 August, to the ban the television series Al Hassan We Al-Hussein from all Iraqi satellite channels.

A parliamentary source stated that the Iraqi parliament has demanded their communications sector to keep the controversial series offline.

Many calls for the ban had already been issued. The head of the Sunni endowments, Abdel Ghaffour El Sameraay, and the head of shia endowments, Saleh El Hedeiry, demanded the ban especially after it was aired on Baghdad channel.

The authorised religious authority, Aly El Sistany, stated in the Friday sermon that the series shows much false information and many lies. He further accuses the production company of not using credible religious sources.

The series has also faced controversy in Egypt, where Al-Azhar issued a statement warning all channels not to air the series, stating that the embodiment of the Prophet Mohamed’s companions in a drama is religiously forbidden.
