The head of Egypt's Actors' Syndicate recalls the artistic influence of Kamal El-Shennawy on his own career


The head of the Actors’ Syndicate, Ashraf Abdel Ghaffour, has issued a statement mourning the late actor Kamal El-Shennawy, who died today at age 89.

“He was one of the artists that really influenced my artistic career,” he said. “He managed to choose works that fit each of each of his life stages; whether in his youth or his old age.”

Abdel Ghaffour added that while working with El-Shennawy in Beit El Talebat (The Dorm) and the television series Al Shak (The Doubt), he witnessed first-hand his dedication to his work and embracing of young artists.

El-Shennawy, born in Mansoura, Egypt in 1922, is one of the important actors in Egyptian cinema, having acted in 200 films and television series.

His funeral will be held Monday at noon at the Moustafa Mahmoud Mosque in Mohandiseen.
