The Sanad fund, sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, has awarded funding to three Egyptian films
Three Egyptian films have received funds from Sanad, the Abu Dhabi Film Festival's fund for filmmakers from the Arab world. Each year, Sanad awards a total of $500,000 in development and post-production grants to feature-length narrative and documentary projects.
The winning films include the documentary Tahrir 2011: The Good, the Bad and the Politician, which will be on the official programme at this year’s Venice Film Festival; the documentary film Al-Bahth an Al-Naft (In Search for Oil and Sand) by the filmmaker Philip Lorant Deeb and the feature film Ward Masmoum (Poisoned flowers) by Fawzy Saleh.
Launched in 2010, Sanad supports films at two key stages of the production process: development and post-production. For the development stage, the fund can reach up to $20,000, while in the stage of post-production, the fund can reach up to $60,000.
