Somali pirates rejected the Red Sea Company'soffer to pay $500 thousand for the release of the vessel "MV Suez" and its crew, citing that the company's offer had come too late.
The ship's chief engineer's wife, Farida Farouk, spoke to her husband, Wael Salah, on the phone and said that, according to him, the pirates had rejected the offer due to its delay.However, if the offer was made earlier they might have accepted it, she told Al-Ahram Arabic portal.
The pirates announced that the very least they will accept now is $1 million.
The ship's crew is currently suffering from hunger, eating nothing but fish from the island where they are beingheld captive.
Furthermore, families of the kidnapped crew confirmed that theRed Sea Company had cut the ship's workers' salary in half.
