Ahly's first goalkeeper Sherif Ekramy is confirmed to miss the team's kick-off of the Egypt Cup bid when they meet Dairut Wednesday in round of 32.
"The technical staff [under Dutch coach Martin Jol] preffered to rest the first keeper Ekramy during Wednesday game to ensure his full recovery from recent injury," the Cairo giants Football Director told their official website Sunday morning.
The 32-year-old goalie has yet to fully recover from a hamstring injury he sustained in a regular league game in February.
He is expected to complete his rehabilitation program Tuesday.
Ekrami picked his injury last month in an attempt to block a shot during Ahly’s 1-1 draw with Ghazl El-Mahalla in the Egyptian Premier League.
Ahly, the record holders of the Cup with 33 trophies - 10 more than archrivals Zamalek - has not won the Egypt Cup championship since 2007.
Zamalek will meet Shabab Aldabaa on the same round of the Cup on Wednesday.
Ahly will also face Young Africans of Tanzania on 9 April in the first leg of the African Champions League, round of 16, 10 days before they host the Tanzanians back in Egypt.
The Reds made it to the last 16 after defeating Recreativo of Angola 2-0 on aggregate, while Young Africans went through after beating Rwanda's APR.
Zamalek, will be taking on Algerian side MO Bejaia in the same round of the prestigious tournament,
In the Egyptian Premier League, Ahly lead the table with 47 points, six ahead of Zamalek.
