Art Alert: Cairo Jazz Station, a concert at the crossroads between jazz and contemporary Middle Eastern music
Four young artists from Europe and the Middle East will meet in Makan to explore a new collective musical identity
Medinea, Mediterranean Incubator of Emerging Artists, will present Cairo Jazz Station project on Tuesday 5 April, at Makan.
At the crossroads between jazz and contemporary Middle Eastern music, the event is a result of a collaboration between the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and the Egyptian Centre for Culture and Arts, Makan, with the support of the French Institute in Cairo.
The evening will feature saz player Abdallah Abozekry (Egypt), percussionist Ismail Altunbas (Turkey), accordionist João Barradas (Portugal), and double bass player Loris Lari.
According to the event's promotional material, the four young musicians met in Cairo to build up a new collective musical identity aiming to bring closer the edges and sounds of a region in turmoil.
The four artists will play with the participation of musicians from Makan.
