Maccabi Tel Aviv’s coach says his team is not affected by security measures amid tensions between Israel and Turkey ahead of the Europa League game against Besiktas
Mordehay Iwanir tells Israel’s Army Radio on Thursday that “we don’t feel it personally.”
Turkey has taken strict security measures for Thursday night’s match following tensions with Israel over its refusal to apologize for a raid on a Gaza-bound ship last year that killed nine Turkish activists.
About 150-200 Maccabi fans are expected to attend the game.
Yair Asher of Flying Carpet, an Israeli travel company, says dozens of fans who arrived in Istanbul have taken precautions to blend in. He said: “they aren’t wearing the yellow T-shirts of the Israeli team.”
