Egypt's Prime Minister Sherif Ismail vowed on Tuesday that tough legal measures would be taken against those who leak the exams of the country's Thanaweya Aama certificate, his first comments since the most recent debacle began on Saturday.

Ismail paid a surprise visit to the Ministry of Education headquarters in Cairo where he inspected the operations of the central control room which monitors last year of high school tests.

The PM was accompanied by Minister of Education El-Halaly Sherbiny.

Ismail also stressed the importance of "developing and improving examination systems in Egypt in order to fight attempts to use online methods to cheat.

Earlier in the day, security forces arrested the administrators of three Facebook pages for allegedly leaking the exams on social media.

On Monday, the prosecution ordered the detention of 12 officials from the education ministry for 15 days pending investigations into the leaking of the exams.

The repeated incidents have created outrage across Egypt as more than 500,000 students are sitting for this year's tests which determine who goes to what college if any.
