Wafd Party officially ends agreement with Muslim Brotherhood, no joint candidates list for ā€ˇparliamentary elections

Wafd Party Supreme Committee member, Essam Shiha, said his party had officially ‎backed out of its deal with the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, but ‎will continue to cooperate with the rest of the Democratic Alliance for Egypt parties.‎

Wafd chairman El-Sayed El-Badawy had earlier decided to pull the party out of the ‎Democratic Alliance for Egypt. His decision was supposed to either be ratified or turned ‎down by the party’s Supreme Committee following a meeting on Sunday. ‎

However, Shiha told Ahram Online that Wafd had officially announced the end of their ‎pact with the Muslim Brotherhood before the meeting. ‎

“Wafd’s deal with the Brotherhood is over,” he said. “There will be no joint candidates list with the Brotherhood or the rest of the Alliance parties for the ‎parliamentary elections.‎

“However, Wafd is considering cooperating with the Democratic Alliance for ‎Egypt's parties, including the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice, during the coming elections,” he added.

Wafd Party and the Brotherhood were two of the main pillars of the ‎Democratic Alliance, which had 34 parties under its umbrella. ‎

Over the past months, Wafd and the Brotherhood repeatedly mulled over pulling out of the ‎alliance. ‎
