Protesting teachers prepare million-man march to call for dismissal of PM Sharaf
Protesting teachers will organise their third demonstration on Saturday to call on Egypt Premier Essam Sharaf to step down
A Spokesperson of the Independent Teachers’ Syndicate, Ayman El-Bialy, has said teachers are still demanding the sacking of the Minister of Education Ahmed Gamal El-Din, and are now calling for the dismissal of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf.
For weeks thousands of teachers across the nation have been protesting low wages and perks, taking to the street several times to blame Gamal El-Din.
El-Bialy said the protesting teachers will organise their third demonstration on Saturday, but this time will call on Sharaf to step down after he failed to meet their demands.
The march, which was enthusiastically called for by El-Bialy, will take place in front of the cabinet office.
Teachers demands include education reform, cleansing of the education ministry institutions, minimum and maximum wages, and banning private lessons.
