After having his resignation rejected by SCAF, Minister of Finance Hazem El-Beblawi took part in a cabinet meeting discussing insurance and retirement funds

Minister of Finance and deputy Prime Minister Hazem El-Beblawi took part in a cabinet meeting today after the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces rejected his resignation yesterday.

The meeting, headed by Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, discussed insurance and retirement funds in the light of statements by Minister of Manpower Ahmed El-Borai last week saying the insurance and retirement fund lost LE436 billion under the former regime.

Following El-Borai’s remarks, SCAF Chief Tantawi formed a committee of ministers including the prime minister, the ministers of international co-operation, electricity, manpower, information, tourism and industry and trade to discuss the issue and present the outcome to the public.

El-Beblawi had filed his resignation in protest of the government's handling of Sunday night's deadly Maspero clashes that left 25 dead. The minister of finance and deputy prime minister was appointed to these posts on 16 July 2011 when Sharaf formed his second cabinet since assuming the premiership in early March.
