Facebook page owner Ayman Youssef Mansour receives three year sentence on charges of insulting and exploiting religion to promote sectarian strife


Facebook "blogger" Ayman Hassan Mansour has been sentenced to three years imprisonment on charges of "exploitation ofreligion to promoteextremist ideaswith the intention ofinciting sectarian strife, damaging national unityand insultingthe Islamic religion."

Mansour reportedly confessed to the charges during investigation, providing no justification for his actions.

The court verdict was issued upon the court's "confirmation ofcertaintythat the defendant, through his Facebook page, has deliberatelyoffended the dignityof Islam andsubjected it toridiculeand mockery, in addition to insult, scorn and contempt; noting that thewords said bythe accused, allfocusedon the Quranand thereligion of Islamand the Prophet ofIslam andMuslimsandmembers of his household,isoutrageous andscurrilous, and that the defendant [used the words] at will."
