Egypt’s Consumer Protection Agency refers Pizza Hut to prosecution over false prices
The Consumer Protection Agency received a complaint from a Pizza Hut client claiming that they advertised their “triple box” for EGP99 but charged him EGP126.5 instead
Egypt’s Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) referred Saturday the Pizza Hut fast food chain to the general prosecution over complaints that they charge clients more than their advertised prices, a CPA statement read.
The CPA received a complaint from a Pizza Hut client claiming that they advertised their “triple box” for EGP99 but charged him EGP126.5 instead.
Pizza Hut violated Consumer Rights Law No 67/2006 that stipulates that the consumer has the right to all information regarding the product he or she is buying, the CPA statement read.
The general prosecutor will determine whether to proceed with a case against the franchise.
Meanwhile, the 61 Pizza Hut branches across Egypt will continue to operate normally. The US chain opened its first branch in the country in 1989.
