There still many points up for grabs: Ghana's Atsu
Ahram Online , Sunday 13 Nov 2016

Ghana winger Christian Atsu still believes his side's World Cup qualification chances are not over yet despite their 2-0 away defeat by Egypt at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium on Sunday.

Having dropped points against minnows Uganda in their Group E opener following a 0-0 home draw, the Black Stars could not afford a defeat at Egypt.

The Pharaohs are now on top of the group with six points from two games, two clear of rivals Uganda.

"Regarding our qualification chances, there are still two matches after the qualifiers and points to grab," Atsu, who plays at Championship side Newcastle United, said right after the game.

"We played well today but unfortunately we couldn't win."

When asked about Egypt's best player, Atsu opted not to single out anyone.

"All the players played as a team and I congratulate them and each of them."

Ghana have reached the World Cup finals three times in their history, appearing in the world's most prestigious tournament in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Egypt will now be gearing up for next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, before flying to Uganda for a World Cup qualifier in August 2017.
