Ahram Hebdo writer Dina Kabil wins MICT Open Eye Press Award for best interview

The Open Eye Award was granted to Kabil for her interview titled 'We have to create a third pole" with Lebanese intellectual and researcher Gilbert Ashkar


Egyptian journalist and cultural editor of Al-Ahram Hebdo newspaper Dina Kabil received on Sunday the Open Eye Press Award for best interview in 2016 in Tunis.

The Open Eye Award, which is created by the German Media in Cooperation and Transition Institution (MICT), aims toencourage journalism in conflict zones and countries going through democratic transition.

The French-language Hebdo is the sister paper of Ahram Online.

Kabil won the prize for her interview 'We have to create a third pole' with renowned Lebanese intellectual and researcher Gilbert Ashkar, who spoke on progressive political views in light of the Arab Spring and other developments in the region.

Kabil holds an MA in French and comparative literature from the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University.

Egyptian novelist Ahmed Najy, who is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for publishing a "sexually explicit article," also received the MICT's article award for his work.His latest appeal against the verdict was denied.
