Two policemen open fire on Motaz Soliman as he sits in his car Friday morning before dumping his body at the hospital and fleeing
Egyptian police are once again under fire after shooting and fatally wounding a 24-year-old man in the city of Sheikh Zayed early Friday morning.
Motaz Anwar Soliman was in his car when two policemen shot him five times, killing him immediately.
“Two policemen riding in a police car fired at Motaz while he was in his car,” Emad Awad, the victim’s lawyer explained. “When he tried to drive away, they shot the back of the car and one of the bullets hit Motaz in the back and came out of his chest, killing him instantly.”
Awad says that the sound of gunfire made residents of the area go to the site of the shooting. Terrified of the residents' reaction to the killing, the policemen, according to Awad, tried to extricate themselves by telling on-lookers that they will take Soliman's body to the hospital.
Once at the Sheikh Zayed Private Hospital, the policemen left Soliman's corpse and ran away. However, the residents of the area had managed to take down the car's registration number and filed a complaint against the two perpetrators with the police station.
Following the incident, angry residents gathered around Sheikh Zayed's police station demanding justice for Soliman. Military police and state security forces have been sent to the area to ensure that no further violence breaks out.
