Art Alert: Cairo Celebration Choir and Jordan's Dozan Wa Awtar to perform together in Egypt

The two choirs won silver and gold awards at the 9th World Choir Games in Sochi, Russia (2016)


Two award-winning choirs, the Cairo Celebration Choir from Egyptand Dozan Wa Awtar from Jordan, will join hands in a performance to take place at theCairo Opera House on 3 February and Alexandria Opera House on 4 February.

The Cairo Celebration Choir (CCC) will performAghani Bel Arabi, a compilation of folk songs by Egyptian composers such as Sayed Darwish, arranged by maestro Nayer Nagui, who is also the choir’s founder and artistic director. Aghani Bel Arabi took the CCCSilver Diplomain the category Folklore with accompaniment, at the 9th World Choir Games — an international event held in July 2016 in Sochi, Russia.

Founded in 2000, the CCC also performs a Western classical music repertoire for voices and contributes to the annual Christmas concerts held at the Cairo Opera House.

Dozan Wa Awtar from Jordan "works with a wide variety of music in different languages and from different parts of the world, and seeks to enrich their audience with every performance," the event's Facebook page writes.

The Jordanian choir is managed by Nedy Muna.

Dozan Wa Awtar participated in the Champions Competition of 2016's World Choir Games, where it won gold medals in two categories: Music of Spirit and Faith, and Folklore with accompaniment. The choir was conducted byShireen Abu Khader.

The choirs' two concerts in Egypt will be joined by traditional Arab singer Rehab Metawi, sopranoDina Iskandar and mezzoJolie Faizy. They will also include pianist Greig Martin on piano, Ramadan Mansour on tabla and Nashaat Yehia on riq.

The performances will be conducted byNayer Nagui and Nedy Muna.
