Magdy Abdel-Ghany has refused to join Egypt in Qatar and attacked Egyptian Football Association president Samir Zaher ahead of Brazil friendly
Egyptian Football Association (EFA) member Magdy Abdel-Ghany has criticised Chairman Samir Zaher regarding Egypt's Monday night Brazil friendly, describing it as a “scandal”.
“This match is surrounded by many question marks and there are a huge number of Zaher’s wrongdoings,” Abdel-Ghany told the Egyptian media, explaining his refusal to travel with the team’s delegation to Qatar, preferring to stay in London.
“Zaher will not escape punishment and a serious investigation will be launched, as he made many decisions on his own while we [EFA members] were surprised by them though the media,” he added.
Abdel-Ghany revealed that the association knows nothing about the Pharaohs' campaign in Qatar, insisting that “the next days will witness many surprises” as a result of Zaher’s irregularities, without announcing any more details.
On the other hand, Zaher has denied everything Abdel-Ghany has said, announcing that he will hold a press conference after returning from Doha to, comment on the accusations.
"I will give a cruel response to all who attacked me without reason and I will reveal the full truth to the public," Zaher told the Egyptian media.
The current board was appointed during former president Mubarak's era and was widely criticised after the January 25 Revolution, especially following the Egypt's disqualification from the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
To open a new chapter, Zaher selected former United States coach Bob Bradley to succeed the country’s most successful coach Hassan Shehata, and he is to be tested tonight for the first time in a friendly against Brazil in Doha.
