Sudan’s Al-Hilal plans an appeal against the punishment meted out to their president for attacking the referee during their African Champions League semi-final
Sudanese side Al-Hilal have announced that they will lodge an appeal to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the suspension of its president Mohammed Al-Birair for two years.
Al-Birair was suspended and fined $10,000 for hitting Algerian referee Djamel Haimoudi during his club’s 1-0 defeat against Tunisia’s Esperance in the African Champions League semi-final on 2 October.
“We respect the CAF as the football governing body in Africa, but we will take all the legal procedures to appeal against the decision,” Al Barbare told Sudanese newspaper Goansport on Wednesday.
“After receiving the decision yesterday, the club’s board held a meeting to discuss the matter and we have already sent our lawyers to Cairo to lodge the appeal,” he added.
