A play titled Henna will be staged at the Garage Theatre at the Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria on 17 and 18 May.

Directed by Houria El-Dakkak, the play is produced by Beit Hawadeet Eskendereya (Alexandria’s House of Stories), and is set at a traditional Egyptian Henna party (bridal shower).

Through the stories of partygoers, the play highlights women’s issues in performances that include music and storytelling.

Beit Hawadeet Eskendereya was formed almost two years ago, the result of a storytelling workshop also at The Jesuit Cultural Center led by Mohamed Abdelfattah.

“This is the storytelling troupe’s first venture into acting. The performance also includes some actors who are not members of the troupe, which is a group 15 to 18 members,” said Mahmoud Gaber, a member of Beit Hawadeet Eskenderia.

Some of the troupe's other performances include Matloob Anesa and Vitaminat, both directed by Mohamed Abdelfattah and staged at Jesuit Culture Center, as well was Es-ha Ya Nayem, directed by El-Dakkak and staged at Teatro Eskendria.
