The minister of Antiquities Khaled El-Enany is set to announce on Saturday a major discovery at thevTuna Al-Gabal archaeological site in the Upper Egyptian city of Al-Minya.

An official in the ministry who asked to be kept anonymous told Ahram Online that the discovery was made by a mission from the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University near the necropolis of birds an animals.

The discovery is the first of its kind since 1950 when Egyptologist Sami Gabra discovered a burial site of ibis and baboons. The official said the new discovery was made inside an eight-metre deep burial shaft in the desert. A cache of mummies was found as well as other artefacts.
