Art Alert: The Gypsy Jazz Project and Dalia Farid to perform at Cairo's ROOM
Ahram Online, Wednesday 14 Jun 2017
The pioneers of the Gypsy Jazz genre in Egypt will team up with versatile performer Farid for an evening of music and song

Egyptian band The Gypsy Jazz Project is set to perform alongside singer Dalia Farid at ROOM Art Space on 17 June.

The Gypsy Jazz Project is a Cairo-based Jazz band, whose tunes are influenced by the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, as well as other, older artists. The band aims to present different facets of the genre, their music at times waltzy and upbeat, at others far more tranquil. The band lineup consists of guitarists Andrew Guindi, Amr Soliman and Michael Adel; violinist Amir Latif, saxophonist Mina Nashaat, accordionist Ashraf Rizk and bassist Andrew Safwat.

Egyptian singer and actress Dalia Farid has a broad repertoire, taking in jazz, folk and classical music. She made her opera debut in 2009, in the AUC production of “Dido and Aneas”, under the musical direction of prominent artist Neveen Allouba. She has since performed in numerous plays and concerts at the Cairo Opera House, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and other venues across the country. She has also taken part in international performances in London and Finland.
