Cairo's 6th of October Bridge to be partially closed in downtown direction for a month
Ahram Online, , Thursday 6 Jul 2017

Cairo's general traffic authority is to partially shut down, for maintenance, the major 6th of October Bridge in the direction leading to central Cairo for almost a month, the state TV website reported.

A part of the bridge which runs from the eastern Cairo neighbourhood of Nasr City to Downtown Cairo's Ramsis Square was due to be closed on Thursday, allowing vehicles only one lane to pass through.

Road crews are set to carry out necessary repairs to links connecting parts of the bridge. The closure, which will run until 4August, is expected to cause increasing traffic congestion in the area.

The 20.5 kilometre bridge, the longest high bridge in Egypt, connects Cairo's neighbouring Giza governorate to the eastern part of the capital, while crossing the Nile and leading to some of the city's major squares.
