Egypt’s Shoukry, Palestinian Authority's Abbas discuss latest efforts to revive peace process
The Palestinian leader's visit will also include talks with President Sisi on the issue
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed in a Cairo meeting late Saturday with Palestinian Authority Leader Mahmoud Abbas the latest news regarding the peace process, a statement from the ministry statement read.
During the meeting, shoukry reitrerated Egypt’s stance in support of the Palestinian Cause, and said that reviving negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides for a fair and comprehensive solution is a priority in Egypt’s diplomatic efforts.
Abbas updated Shoukry on the results of his talks with US envoy Jason Greenblatt as well as talks with US President Donald Trump's advisor, Jared Kushner.
Abbas also informed Shoukry of the results of his recent international trips to gather support for the Palestinian cause.
The Palestinian leader's visit will also include talks with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi regarding efforts to revive the peace talks.
The delegation accompanying Abbas includes Maged Farah, the Palestinian intelligence chief.
Abbas' visit comes only a few days after a Hamas delegation visited Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials on the resumption of Palestinian national reconciliation efforts, which the elected head of Hamas' political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh described as a "new page" in Egypt-Hamas relations.
